Discover the ideal storage time for your favorite cheese with our simple guide!

Although the passion for cheese has always existed, it was only more recently that the professional world began to reflect this. I don't know if it happens to more people, but this fact led me to look for ways to simplify and perhaps demystify this world of cheese and its absolute truths. Whenever I learn something new I always think that maybe it will help more people, even if just out of curiosity. Although when talking about cheese conservation or shelf life this is a serious matter and a valid concern.

So let's reveal the secrets of professionals in the caseology sector, to help you keep your cheese fresh and delicious for longer?

Like any other food, each type of cheese has its own shelf life , and it is not possible to keep them all for the same period of time. Each cheese has different properties and characteristics, so its behavior during maturation is also naturally different .

Check out our quick cheat sheet here.

15 or 20 days :

Smaller cheeses that have little curing, are soft and have a low fat content are those that have a shorter shelf life. These cheeses should not be kept refrigerated for more than 15 or 20 days.

1 month :

Those that should not exceed one month are buttery cheeses . These cheeses are the most difficult to maintain due to their softer paste, therefore requiring greater “pampering”.

If you particularly like this cheese like here at home, this question doesn't arise, as there's rarely any left over.

1 to 2 months :

If you are a fan of ripened goat cheese or pressed paste (normally 1 kg), it can be safely stored for 1 to 2 months in your home.

Months :

But those that win the race of time are cured sheep's cheeses or pressed cheeses (normally 1 kg too), which can be stored for months.

It's that simple, but when in doubt, remember that the harder your cheese paste and the more fat the milk has , the better it will keep in your home, staying true to the characteristic flavor and aroma that you love .

In addition to these storage time issues, it is also very important to choose appropriate storage, as this is essential to keeping your cheese fresh and delicious.

Finally, it is worth remembering that the expiration date of your cheese is always available on the packaging and this information was provided by the producer, along with the batch for quality control reasons. And therefore, this information prevails over any other.

Now that you know how long each type of cheese can be stored, I invite you to enjoy and try different varieties of cheese without worry.
